Xavier MaatRa, Director & Lead Facilitator
Xavier Maatra is a Community organizer and activist from Southern New Jersey currently thriving in Chicago IL. For over a decade he has traveled the country as a labor organizer, social justice workshop facilitator, and youth advocate. While in the midwest he’s appreciated his time working with LGBT youth through the Drop in Program at the Broadway Youth Center and helping to build a coalition of youth agencies to strengthen youth programs on Chicago’s Southwest side. In his free time, DirtyArtBoi is a self-proclaimed music fiend, Poet, Farmer in training and student of Pan African Studies.
Throughout his career as a grassroots community educator he has impacted thousands of people from across the United states, including students from the UK, Iraq, and various countries across South America.
Since 2013 as the Training Coordinator at the Chicago Freedom School he has consulted with hundreds of organizations creating innovative popular education trainings on a range of social justice and youth development topics.
In 2016 Xavier launched DAB of Consulting. A DAB of Consulting specializes in innovative and interactive sessions in the areas of Non Profit Management, Youth Development, Organizing Skills, and Issues in Social Justice. Workshops and trainings can be customized for youth, organizers, and professionals of various backgrounds.
Services are rooted in Popular Education or education for critical consciousness raising techniques and are designed to empower people who feel marginalized socially and politically to take control of their own learning to effect social change.
